*Festifall: Immerse yourself in the Arts*
*Chapel Hill, NC: * Immerse yourself in the Arts at the Festifall Arts
Festival on West Franklin, Sunday, October 2, 2011, from noon to 6pm.
In its 39^th year, this free, annual festival continues to grow and
expand, reflecting what the arts represent locally. The Town of Chapel
Hill has partnered with a working committee of 20 citizens to bring a
variety of fun, engaging activities and performances for all ages, as
well as a chance to buy something special created by hand and an
opportunity the meet the creator.
Abundant are the arts with an array of choices to connect with your
inner artist when you dig your hands into clay provided by the Chapel
Hill Community Clay Studio. Give "Chalk Chapel Hill" a try at one of
three stations set up to create the grand 3-D illusion right on the
streets of West Franklin. With everyone doing their part, the Grand
Pumpkin, presented by Durham Technical Community College, will come
alive in the midway via colorful tissue paper.
The arts intersect in all that we do. Get to know the creative people
that make the community interesting and vibrant by chatting with a
multitude of local organizations represented at Festifall. To name a
few: The Heritage Loom, presented by the Carrboro Citizen; The AtsCenter
of Carrboro, Love Chapel Hill, The Orange County Arts Guild, Safe Haven
for Cats, The Chatham County Arts Council, The Town of Chapel Hill, and
many more.
A new addition this year is the 140 West World Music Dance Tent,
featuringlive music and dance performances by UNC Dance Marathon,
Saludos Company, Lo K Shun, and more. Release your passion for dance of
all types as there will be instruction in sassy Salsa and African dance
styles.
Ever-present at Festifall is the Showcase Stage presented by 1360 WCHL
and chapelboro.com. This stage comes alive with music from the Triangle
Jazz Orchestra, acoustic folk from Mipso Trio, along with the neo soul
and jazz sounds of Jasme Kelly.
In the Kids Canvas area, there will be a variety of entertainment for
all ages. From music by The Emerson Waldorf School Jazz Band, The
Waterlilies, and Completely Off Balance to Signsations, a youth American
Sign Language choral group, will be on site to interpret songs into sign
language. Be sure to catch The Encore Academy of Dance showing the
crowd all types of dance through a range of skills.
Festifall is an opportune time to meet up with friends, co-workers, or
have a family outing with a multitude of ways to relax and have fun
together. Food and beverages will be on site from the likes of Vimila's
Curry Blossom Café, Bandido's Mexican Cafe, The Pig with little piggy
sausage & hot dog cart, as well as Ben and Jerry's. A day to be
remembered by all with countless more options for fun to be had than
there is space to mention.
Festifall, the Best Annual Event in Chapel Hill as voted by Chapel Hill
Magazine readers 2011.
